My Self-Summary

A man who apparently, wears bandages because otherwise he will unleash Pandora's box on the Casino. Or is it, his skin is actually pink and it takes too long to do full body make up? We're still trying to figure out half of what he says.

My Future Plans

To die with a beautiful woman. Apparently.

My Talents

Causing chaos, being loud, sleeping where he shouldn't, snooping where he shouldn't, drinking, and drinking more, and drinking more, and drinking more.

Favorite Books, Movies, Music, and Food

As he said on a drunken night, the only book he misses is "The Complete Suicide", guides on methods of suicide along with the assessment of the pain it causes, preparation required, the appearance of the body and, lethality.

He should eat more. Crabs, snacks, and that's about it. We might be worried about him.

My Ideal Partner

He doesn't talk about anything else, so. A beautiful woman. He can die with. Preferrably soon.

“Character Quote Goes Here!!!”
CHARACTER SUMMARY
From the Wiki:

Dazai is a mysterious person, his true intentions are never revealed unless he reveals them. The person who got closest to the truth of his personality, as acknowledged by Dazai himself, was his friend Sakunosuke Oda, who recognized that Dazai shall linger in the darkness forever, as there was nearly nothing that can surpass his mind. Regardless whether he is on the side of killing people or saving them, Oda knew that no place in the world could fill Dazai's loneliness, which Oda thought Dazai knew in himself.

In addition, Dazai kept an enigmatic and dark façade, whose endeavors in the Mafia were unrivaled and eventually earned him the status as the youngest leader in the history of the Mafia. Because of his aptitude despite his youth, Dazai contributed to about half the Mafia's profits for at least two years. Eventually, Dazai's ledger became tainted; Ichiyō Higuchi describes his blood to be "dark as the Mafia itself". Even in his adulthood when he becomes an Agency member, when Kyōka Izumi showed remorse over having killed 35 people, Dazai remarked with a sinister face that such number is nothing.

As a saying in the Mafia went, "The greatest misfortune for Dazai's enemies is that they are Dazai's enemies", for Dazai was aptly described to be "practically born to be in the Mafia". He was extremely confident and was a terrific planner, coming up with long-run strategies to subdue his enemies. For instance, he was able to lure Mimic operatives, who were previously trained soldiers, to fall under his trap. Dazai is quite skilled in persuasion notably through his words, which he appeared to utilize in interrogations that broke targets who did not divulge anything under Kōyō Ozaki's torture squad.

Behind this grim persona, Dazai admitted that he joined the Mafia to be exposed to death, violence, and people giving in to their urges and desires, expecting that—in this way—he would be able to see the inner nature of humankind firsthand in hopes of finding a reason to live. Following Oda's demise, Dazai defected from the Mafia and went underground in order to heed Oda's final request for him to "be on the side that saves people". Admittedly, he reckoned that people change over time where potential surfaces, which apparently seems to apply to himself as well.

Upon joining the Agency, Dazai is usually called lazy, with Doppo Kunikida always scolding him for being unproductive and slacking off. Despite that, he has shown a sharp wit, deducing all the unlikely situations that led Atsushi Nakajima to believe he was being stalked by a tiger when he was the tiger in question.[16] He has complete confidence no matter what type of situation he is dealing with, be it combat or simply bad situations he formulated in the first place.

In most occasions, Dazai is overly dramatic. He takes most of his actions as a joke, and, although they are very well-thought plans, he does not credit himself for most of what he has done. Dazai likes to tease anyone and everyone, especially if it means that he can get a laugh out of it. As a suicide maniac, he often attempts to commit suicide in comical manners, but he oftentimes fails or gives up on it when such methods are painful.

Dazai, in particular, wishes to commit double suicide with a beautiful woman; though he admits that he "likes all types of women", he possibly prefers the type who would die with him if he asked to. Kunikida once wondered why Dazai is quite popular with women and called him a menace to women, a sentiment Chūya Nakahara once used when he threatened to leak Dazai's address to every woman he ever made cry, which Dazai soon asked him not to do. Dazai also once had a run-in with a bomb threat instigated by a woman whom Dazai figured was obsessed with him.

While his suicidal tendencies are initially comedic, they reveal a truly dark deep hole that Dazai has. Even as a teenage boy, Dazai questioned whether there was any value in life. Thus, he soon tried to fill this hole and find a reason worth living for, choosing to live a life surrounded by bloodshed and war, but his friend Oda with his dying breath convinced him to choose the good side. He understood that even though good and evil mean little to Dazai, he may become a slightly better person if he were to choose well.

In the past, while he was still suicidal, it was shown to be far less comedic. He even described death as a way to free himself from the oxidizing world, but, strangely enough, he could not die no matter how hard he tried. Additionally, he was extremely brutal and methodical, setting up traps to catch captives alive to torture them for information, and he would often beat his then-apprentice Ryūnosuke Akutagawa for disobeying orders and to push him to the limits to improve his abilities.

While in the present he is more lighthearted and comical, he still retains some of his darker personality. He is still able and proficient at coming up with long-run strategies, though he doesn't inform his teammates what they are until the time is right. When he can see through the enemies' schemes, no matter how complex, Dazai would sometimes plot to run along with a charade if he deems it necessary, which he did during his entrance exam in order to let Kunikida's suspicions arouse over him as planted; in so doing, they were able to break free from their opponent's ruse and eventually catch the mastermind behind.

Dazai is also willing to use dirty means to achieve his goals, such as purposely deflating Ango Sakaguchi's car seat airbag when they crashed so Ango would get injured and force him to cooperate with Dazai for pardoning Kyōka in exchange for having his wounds healed.

Nonetheless, he does care for his teammates and watches out for them, especially Atsushi for whom he sees the greatest potential. Moreover, Dazai develops a sense of duty and utilizes his wit and intelligence to the Agency in their quest to help maintain Yokohama's peace and order. As part of his various plans and well-calculated strategies, he even devised for Atsushi and Akutagawa to collaborate at times to become a new generation of Twin Dark who could take on the brewing evil lurking within the city.

CANON POINT: Chapter 101.

AGE: 22.

BACKGROUND
HISTORY: WIKI PAGE

PERSONALITY:
cw for depression and suicide

  • What impression does your character give when meeting someone for the first time? How does the first impression differ from your character’s true nature?

  • Dazai is a man of many masks. Upon first glance, he's eccentric, the type of person who makes one blink slowly at his antics, unsure how they can come from an adult. He's known to pull pranks, as giving his partner wrong lifehacks and information simply to annoy the poor man. He's loud, quirky, obnoxious, childish and much like a trickster. If the person he's speaking to happens to be a woman, they encounter Dazai's terrible propensity to flirt, openly, shamelessly, and perhaps disturbingly for some. Plainly suicidal, he doesn't shy away from talking about it either, much nonchalantly and in a light tone, as if he was talking about something trivial as the weather. Work-averse and whiny, Dazai might be taken as unreliable with how much he dodges responsibilities he deems boring, such as reports.

Underneath his mask, however, lies a man of absurdly high intellect, depressed, numb, and lonely, whose views in life and existence border on miserable. He's ruthless, manipulative, concerned with his own self-interest, and bothers little with the duality of good and bad. As several characters put it through the series, he's absolutely horrifying, his blood black and his heart forever taken by the darkness he attempts to flee. The good news, however, is that he endeavors to become a better person and save others, as it has been asked of him. Not a linear advancement, he'll be forever in Being The Worst rehab, but he tries and tries.

  • How does your character handle stress? What do they do in an emergency?

  • Dazai handles stress remarkably well. With his high intellect and nearly always accurate prediction skills, emergencies are fun to him - they're things he has not been able to predict, to analyze beforehand, and then he has to do with what he has that very moment, which to a man whose strategies were to thank for half the profits of the Port Mafia while he was there, it's a bit of a thrill. He rationally thinks the situation through, assembles a strategy using what he can examine from his surroundings and the people involved, and then he acts or gives orders to achieve their current goal. No stress, no freaking out, just going for it as his plans allow him to. Should they fail, he merely reanalyzes the situation and goes from there.

Oftentimes, however, to solve distressing situations or emergencies, he'll rely on morally grey or morally wrong tactics for the greater good, especially if it means it will save others. He tends to not disclose his plans unless he has to, and watch them unfold, only to reap the benefits once they're done. Cagey, cagey, cagey.

  • What are your character’s ambitions/goals? Why are they important to your character?

  • They aren't the ambitions of normal people, at least. He wishes not for money, fame, or even life itself. With thoughts about wanting something being as heartbreaking as "gone the moment I achieve it", he doesn't have the courage to ask for much. Even his suicide attempts, as many as they are, have been and will be, fail on him. For most of his life, breathing has been unbearable and monotonous, emotions are complicated and he's helpless in front of his own hopelessness, unable to deal with the darkness in his heart and wishing solely to escape it.

That said, Oda Sanosuke had given him purpose before he has died in his arms - "save people, even if it means little to you to be good or bad, choose to be a good person". As Oda himself put it, nothing in this world will ever be able to cure the darkness dripping from Dazai's heart, but if he tried to be good and save others, his life would be a little bit more wonderful. That summarizes his sole goal, the life-changing last words of a man who meant the world to Dazai.

    POWERS
    SKILLS/ABILITIES:
    No Longer Human

Dazai's ability, 'No Longer Human', is a nullification ability that, well, nullifies other abilities completely upon touch, whether he touches the ability itself or the user. It's always active, with no off button whatsoever, and it's considered absolute - if it's a 'power', then it doesn't work on him whatsoever.

The exception is once he's pretty much dead. There is a 0.5-second window to use abilities on Dazai - after Dazai is resuscitated and his heart starts pumping blood, before it reaches his brain, as Dazai's brain won't be functioning and his ability won't nullify it immediately. That said, healing Dazai only works so he's conscious again, he'll still be pretty much dying, because 'No Longer Human' will nullify it as soon as it's on again.

    High Intellect

From a young age, Dazai's always been incredibly intelligent. At the age of fifteen, he's been working in the Port Mafia, earning the title 'The Youngest Executive Boss In Port Mafia History'. This is all due to his genius intellect, fast thinking, ruthless execution, and strategizing. This also ties in with his negotiation skills, and his ability to persuade others into doing what he finds best due to them knowing that it works.

    Fighting Skills

Not the best in the world, he's okay. He makes it up with his ability, and using the environment to come out somewhat victorious - and with a lot of injuries. Oops.

    Torture

Not that he does it anymore, though he would if the situation really called for it, he's known to be the best torturer in the Port Mafia, sadistic to the point there isn't a person who hasn't confessed under his methods. Even other executives, who also were known to be good at torture, would ask him for a hand.

    Dexterity

Extremely proficient in lockpicking, and planting things, to the point it is said that Dazai can pick a lock to a bank's safe with a needle or easily switch out slips of paper with fake ones.

    Heart Rate Manipulation

Pretty much what it says! He can control his heart beating.

NERFING: As we discussed in the FAQ, it's dependent on whose skill he's nullifying, but according to experts, it should nerf 16% power overall. Of course, it'll be talked with the players whose powers he's nullifying.

WEAKNESSES: Well, his mental health is in shambles, he's suicidal, depressed, and self-harming. I always CW and I have an opt-out in my journal!

    Background: https://bungostraydogs.fandom.com/wiki/Osamu_Dazai/Synopsis

    Personality:

    TW. SUICIDE IDEATION, DEPRESSION, ATTEMPTS.

Dazai could be an entire masquerade himself, all the masks and layers creating an individual as gifted as he is troubled.

"Hey, Odasaku, do you know why I joined the Mafia? I joined the Mafia because of an expectation I had. I thought if I was close to death and violence—close to people giving in to their urges and desires, then I would be able to see the inner nature of humankind up close. I thought if I did that… I would be able to find something—a reason to live."
    - Dazai Osamu

Inwardly, Dazai's struggles with his own mental health have colored most of his personality and actions for most of his life. While not much is known about him before the age of fourteen, he is introduced as a child patient who had been in treatment due to a recent suicide attempt. A genius in strategy, he officially joined the Mafia at fifteen and quickly rose through the ranks, giving him the title of "Youngest Executive in The Mafia", and he's even given a saying, that "the greatest misfortune for Dazai's enemies is that they are Dazai's enemies". Word is that he was practically born to be in the Mafia, and people were genuinely afraid of breaching into his space, unsure whether they'd be greeted with a smile or with being mauled off their limbs.

However, these things have never really brought any relief to him. His attempts to die continued, and each time, he'd grown more frustrated that others could die easily when he couldn't ever do so. During his stay at the Mafia, Dazai was partnered with Chuuya, who he had a symbiotic, almost supernatural connection to, even if they disliked each other - the reason behind it is that Dazai often failed to understand his own humanity, and Chuuya reached for his own, sprouting understanding and disapproval for the other all the same. His depression and penchant for predicting outcomes has made his heart frozen, unable to feel and desire anything knowing that he will undoubtedly lose it.

Odasaku's death became a catalyst for the change in Dazai's life. As someone who lived the life of a mafioso without shedding blood, Odasaku caught Dazai's attention, affection, and friendship. As he died in Dazai's arms, he remarked on the fact that while Dazai's loneliness would never leave him, the hollowed heart would never grow whole, he asked Dazai to save rather than take lives, since to Dazai that'd be all the same. Dazai joined the Armed Detective Agency as a means to honor Odasaku's wishes.

However, that being said, walking the path of light hasn't changed all of Dazai's dispositions. He continues to be manipulative, such as purposely deflating Ango Sakaguchi's car seat airbag when they crashed so Ango would get injured and force him to cooperate with Dazai for pardoning Kyōka in exchange for having his wounds healed, or not informing his teammates of his plans to keep them running smoothly, as deep confidence in his own ability of strategy allows. He too frequently makes Akutagawa and Atsushi work together to create a duo as capable as himself and Chuuya.

He believes in potential, and he believes in bringing that potential forward - even perhaps himself. While he can be considered as 'another side of the same coin' as Fyodor due to their outstanding intelligence and methods, while Fyodor believes in superiority, Dazai believes there simply aren't extraordinary nor common people, himself included as just another person. He is lazy, obnoxious, often doesn't take things seriously, lacks common sense, and has a serious problem with keeping it his pants (to the point Chuuya's most effective threat to this day is to send his phone number to all women Dazai's left crying), but he tries to be better.

He tries to use that hollowness in his heart, the darkness that sinks it, to do good for himself and others surrounding him - even if they hardly have a choice in the matter. All this is hidden by a mask of apathy, on top of a mask of confidence, on top of a mask of sloth, on top of a mask of cheeriness, on top of a mask of theatrics and dramatic surges. He's trying.

    Abilities:
    ❝No Longer Human❞

No Longer Human is a nullifying ability that completely cancels any ability of anyone Dazai touches. There is no turning No Longer Human off, therefore it is always active, and it relies on skin contact, functioning as soon and as long as he's touched.

It nullifies even abilities that could benefit Dazai instead, for instance, Akiko Yosano's healing ability (Thou Shalt Not Die allows Yosano to heal all kinds of physical external injuries or any kind for herself and others with the one condition that they must have near-fatal injuries), so he cannot be healed through magic. However, in the case of death, particularly the moment his heart stops beating, Dazai can be barely saved by an ability. When this happens, his ability would cease to exist and other abilities would work on him again. If that works, Dazai will "on the brink of death" state, and require medical care immediately.

There is a specific condition for Yosano's ability to work on Dazai (in case there are instances when there are no medical devices/services available at the moment) and this is only possible as long as he is on the brink of death. But these abilities would still crash with each other - Dazai's ability will try to get in the way, however, there is a 0.5-second window of opportunity to heal him. After Dazai is resuscitated and his heart starts moving again, there would be a brief window before the blood reaches his brain. Since his heart would be beating, meaning he is on the brink of death, Yosano's ability will work on him since Dazai's brain won't be functioning, and his ability won't get in the way. This is the only condition Dazai may be healed using an ability, but the odds of it succeeding are low. It is also mentioned that the less time that passed after Dazai's death, the greater the rate of success would be with the resuscitation method.

Dazai considers No Longer Human to be effective on any ability, so it cannot nullify any form of power that isn't one.

    ❝Genius-level Intelligence❞

Intelligence: Dazai's intelligence is his primary source of expertise as a Mafia executive in the past and as a detective at present. Back in his Mafia days, he was trusted and relied on his intelligence, and considered to be the most worthy right-hand man should he have stayed in the Mafia. Similarly, Dazai is also recognized as one of the Agency's sharpest detectives together with Ranpo, who is known as the world's greatest detective.

With his intelligence, he can go head-to-head against Fyodor Dostoevsky - Ranpo once subtly admitted that going up against Fyodor is like going up against Dazai, whom the great detective himself views to be quite an enigma even as his co-worker. His intelligence allows him to predict outcomes, which he admits is one of his strong qualities if not his strongest.

    ❝Dexterity❞

This man is very proficient in lock picking, such as prying locked boxes or handcuffs open. He was able to implant a bug in Higuchi's pocket without being noticed and he was also able to swipe Chūya Nakahara's knife without even being seen. Kunikida also once described Dazai to be "frighteningly dexterous", knowing that Dazai can pick a lock to a bank's safe with a needle or easily switch out slips of paper with fake ones.

    ❝Acceptable Fighting Skills❞

Dazai had okay hand-to-hand skills among the Mafia. Dazai was able to briefly hold his own against Chūya, the most physically gifted in the Mafia, by predicting and defending against his moves and timing which he had memorized, though he got backed up on the wall soon after. Dazai was also able to fend against a big man by utilizing his resources around him, albeit being overwhelmed later on. It's more smarts than actually fighting, here.

    ❝Heart Rate Manipulation❞

What it says on the tin. He's able to control his heartbeat.

Inventory: Just his prison clothes. :/

    ABILITIES:
    NO LONGER HUMAN
Dazai’s ability, ‘No Longer Human’, is a double-edged sword. As a nullifying ability, it can temporarily cancel another’s for as long as Dazai’s touch remains, which is great when he needs to stop catastrophe, and horrible when he needs a buff, healing, or anything of the sort. Dazai cannot Dazai can't turn it off at will, therefore, ‘No Longer Human’ is constantly activated, and there has been canon evidence that his skin doesn’t necessarily need to be in contact with the ability cast upon him - here is the example of him nullifying one, even though he was wearing shoes. Furthermore, Furthermore, he can also nullify effects on other people at a distance, should he touch the source of it.

Any harm or benefit that can come to him from another ability is completely nullified. There are a few loopholes, however! Should there be a dire need, Dazai’s ability will stop working if he is very much on the brink of death, and there’s a 0.5-second window of opportunity where abilities can be used on him before he is completely gone, with the blood supply to his brain ceased. If this is for healing, it is important to note that he will require immediate medical attention, as ‘No Longer Human’ would immediately cancel the benefits of another ability the second he is back to life.

Lastly, ‘No Longer Human’ is absolute on anything that is an ability. It cannot nullify anything that isn’t one, for example, Lovecraft’s eldritch form, and probably most of the things in the setting! I’ll always consider the things in the Casino as things Dazai can’t nullify unless it comes from a specific NPC - but if I want to play around with it, I’ll ask. I also have an opt-out for those who do not wish to go powerless, it’s right here!

    VICES:

    Substances

“I was at this pub − bored, unemployed − drunkenly complaining to myself when I happened to hit it off with some old guy sitting next to me. He said he’d give me a job, if I beat him in a drinking contest.”
"[…] he’ll get blackout drunk at a pub after what he calls a 'pick me up' "
that one time when he tried to commit suicide by eating poisonous mushrooms, got extremely high, went to work, and said this was a much entertaining way to go.

    Emptiness/Loneliness, as described by Odasaku.
"Listen. You told me if you put yourself in a world of violence and bloodshed, you might be able to find a reason to live. You won't find it. You should know that. Whether you're on the side that takes lives or the side that saves them, nothing beyond your own expectations will happen. Nothing in this world can fill the hole that is your loneliness. You will wander the darkness for eternity. Be on the side that saves people. If both sides are the same, then choose to become a good person. Save the weak, protect the orphaned. You might not see a great difference between right and wrong, but... saving others is something just a bit wonderful."

    Suicidal ideation
"For most things in life, it's harder to succeed than fail. Wouldn't you agree? […] That's why I should attempt suicide rather than commit it! Committing suicide is difficult, but it should be relatively easier to fail at attempting suicide!"

    VIRTUES:

Willingness To Try And Be Better

Dazai made a promise to become a better person to his dying friend, Oda Sakunosuke. Ever since then, he actively tries, joining the Armed Detective Agency as it is a place where he can "save people". He has his ups and downs, like a villain rehab, but he tries, and he tries, and he tries.

    People Reading.

He's been a mentor, and he is a mentor. Dazai knows what makes people tick, how to work them, how to be the person they need to have around for them to thrive, and their inner workings. With his mentees, Akutagawa and Atsushi, he employs very different approaches to help them - Akutagawa became merciless, and survived the Mafia, even if Dazai doesn't agree with the abuse he put the boy through to achieve it. Atsushi came factory pre-traumatized, so he uses his influence to show him he is able to grow. To help them, he also pairs them together regardless of their dislike of the other, so Atsushi can learn he has the ability to fight back, and for Akutagawa to broaden his views. He has been working this since he met Atsushi, knowing they would need to learn with each other to grow. Outside of mentoring, this can be shown how he sees Fyodor's weakness, it being he doesn't trust what he can't control, thus he'd never fully trust his allies.

    SURVEY

▶ I REGULARLY MAKE NEW FRIENDS.
    ▷ 2.5.

Dazai wears several masks, and the primary of them is goofy and incredibly outgoing. With a friendly disposition and an obnoxious, quirky and even charming personality on the surface level, it is easy to befriend Dazai. Without much depth, it's considered a strong agreement. However, if we interpret "friends" in a more profound manner in this scenario, the answer is the opposite - a 5.

"I always lose the things I don't want to lose the most. That's why I don't feel anything anymore. The moment you get your hands on something worth going after, you lose it. That's just how things are. There is nothing worth pursuing at the cost of prolonging a life of suffering."

For Dazai and genuine connections, it’s easier to keep his distance from others, as he believes he will lose them one time or another, and he’d rather not endure the pain of loss. Therefore, he's midway.

▶ SEEING OTHER PEOPLE CRY MAKES ME WANT TO CRY TOO.
    ▷ 5.

These tear ducts are very empty, much like their owner.

Dazai grew up in an environment of hardship, blood, torture, and horrors, many exacted or performed by him. At some point, he truly believed that being surrounded by carnage and misery could help him find meaning and a reason to live, as he would watch others in their struggles. This never achieved what he was looking for - instead, it just made him used to negative emotions and reactions. He has never been seen crying once in his canon, either.

▶ I OFTEN MAKE A BACKUP PLAN FOR A BACKUP PLAN.
    ▷ 1.

Dazai's best asset is his ability to predict what will happen.

It is not an ability, but the result of his genius brain - that said, he knows he can't possibly control every single outcome. He's a schemer, a character who observes and dictates, rather than being on the frontlines. To ensure the safety of comrades and the success of their missions, he must predict outcomes and decide accordingly!

▶ I USUALLY STAY CALM, EVEN WHEN UNDER A LOT OF PRESSURE.
    ▷ 1.

Not much to say here. Dazai is a logical individual, and he's able to think through things even when the situation is dire, therefore, he can keep his calm - prediction often helps in these cases. Pressure isn't ever a problem. To illustrate, in the current arc, he had poison in his veins and 30 minutes to escape a high-security prison built for ability-users, and this was him through the beginning of the ordeal.

    ▶ I AM VERY SENTIMENTAL.
    ▷ 3

Not about everything, but about certain things he has lost - certain people. Years after losing the friends he made in the Port Mafia, he still goes to the same bar he used to go to with them and orders an extra drink for the deceased one. He visits his grave and even talks to him by himself on occasion. The longing comes from the connection lost to this particular individual, and it's a strong one, but for everything else, he wouldn't care much.

▶ EVEN A SMALL MISTAKE CAN CAUSE ME TO DOUBT MY OVERALL ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE.
    ▷ 5.

Dazai is fully aware of what he can or can't do, and where his weaknesses and strengths lie. A mistake is a miscalculation, prone to happen statistically. It happens.

▶ I AM MORE INCLINED TO FOLLOW MY HEAD THAN MY HEART.
    ▷ 5.

Dazai's sense of right or wrong is extremely muddy. He sees no difference, morality means very little to him, and even when he does feel 01 (one) emotion, there's justifications upon justifications, all logical, to align it. A good example is how he attempted to stop Odasaku, the one whose grave he visits and whose words guide his life. It had been a string of why the actions he was about to commit were terrible ideas, data over a request to stay first.

▶ I AM PRONE TO WORRYING THAT THINGS WILL TAKE A TURN FOR THE WORSE.
    ▷ 1.

In both spheres - logical and emotional. Logically, worrying that things will take a turn for the worse is simply another way to predict the outcomes that may happen in any possible situation. Emotionally speaking, Dazai's a coward. Not only does he worry that it will, but he anticipates it, hides behind it, and uses it as a justification - see the quote above.

▶ I ENJOY WATCHING PEOPLE ARGUE.
    ▷ 3.

For entertainment, for sure! He could sit and watch, gladly, but it is hardly his favorite thing. That'd be annoying someone so much they try to argue with him, so he can be zero percent even more annoying.

▶ I TEND TO AVOID DRAWING ATTENTION TO MYSELF.
    ▷ 5.

He's flamboyant by nature. Loud, weird, annoying, and very, very theatrical. It's impossible for him not to call attention to himself - specially that way. The more people see him being an idiot, the more they misread him and label him as a clown, the more he can go around and slack at work and notice things as he would!

▶ I OFTEN DO THINGS AT THE LAST POSSIBLE MOMENT.
    ▷ 2.

One of the gags of Dazai is his penchant for slacking. Never doing his paperwork on time, doing things his own way, and taking his sweet time to reveal plans. A good part of this is the depression that leaves him unmotivated to do things, another is how several things are understimulating, the third reason is: that revealing things too early could change the outcomes.

▶ I FIND IT EASY TO EMPATHIZE WITH A PERSON WHOSE EXPERIENCES ARE VERY DIFFERENT FROM MINE.
    ▷ 4.5.

Empathizing is a difficult thing. He can logically understand and analyze them as much as he wants, but he hardly can empathize completely. This is shown by how he found no meaning in the Mafia, even when his being there was so he could empathize with the reason why people hold on so tightly to their lives amidst horrors. He struggles with life questions, and reasonings for himself, which makes that a blind spot.

▶ I BECOME BORED OR LOSE INTEREST WHEN THE DISCUSSION GETS HIGHLY THEORETICAL.
    ▷ 1.

The man is a nerd. The good part of the year in canon, he spent in a high-security prison with a man whose high intellect matched his, and all his conversations were engaging, theoretical, and full of reading between the lines, and he enjoyed it... If it weren't for the prison part and the lack of other companions to talk to.

    ▶ I RARELY FEEL INSECURE.
    ▷ 5.

Dazai feels insecure about himself in several ways. He knows that nothing in this world or the next could fill the void of darkness in his heart, but can he find happiness in any shape or form? Will he ever feel less empty, less alienated? Will he ever change? Is he trying to be a good person, good enough? Will he ever comprehend, truly, what it means to want to be alive? Will he ever be wholly human?

▶ I AM STILL BOTHERED BY MISTAKES I MADE A LONG TIME AGO.
    ▷ 1.

Dazai holds grudges, and some are regarding things that he was made to do. He holds a grudge over the Port Mafia's boss, for using him as a witness to a murder, to lie and say that it had been natural causes and give the man the position in the organization. Furthermore, it can be argued that he feels guilty regarding his abusive treatment of Akutagawa, with how he now pairs him with someone who might make him better, even praising him, which is something he withheld during his time mentoring the boy.

SUIT REQUESTS: Spades would be my first choice, hearts would be the second!
RANK REQUESTS: Considering canon evidence, mid or high-rank would suit him, except he doesn't care for any pampering or luxury, so he will probably ignore All Of It and it'd be funny to me particularly. Boy used to be the richest Mafia member, and yet, chose to live in a shipping container in the middle of a chemical waste ground.
